TV Review: The Politician - Season 2

Review of Netflix’s The Politician: Season 2

Netflix is back with their sophomore season to one of Ryan Murphy’s most popular shows, The Politician. However, it’s in diminishing and disappointing returns. This time around, Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) is attempting to dethrone Dede Standish (Judith Light) for New York City’s Senate race. And he will do anything to achieve it. While Season 2 is a very fun and enjoyable time to just let the guilty pleasure take over you, it’s lost the clever touch of its predecessor. Ben Platt is still fantastic, and so are his goons of sorts, McAfee (Laura Dreyfuss), Theo (James Sullivan) and Alice (Julia Schlepper). Gwyneth Paltrow does her job as Payton’s mother, also getting into the political business. The cast overall is solid, but the smarts are sadly gone. The series has turned into guilty pleasure and nothing but, which is a pretty big let-down.

Should you Binge, Browse or Skip?

The second season of The Politician has lost much of its glorious brains, becoming a perfectly entertaining, well-acted but awfully stupid series. I would say…SKIP IT
